About each community

Every area has its own kinds of homes, buildings and permit offices. Here is what we see around each one.

Marana

Bulwark Electric LLC is based in Marana. We handle residential and commercial electrical work across town, from Continental Ranch and Gladden Farms to Dove Mountain.

Much of Marana has been built since the late 1990s, so many calls here are about adding to a newer home: a Level 2 EV charger in the garage, patio and landscape lighting, a spa or pool circuit, or power for a workshop.

Electrical permits for work in Marana are issued by the Town of Marana. Homes and businesses here get power from Tucson Electric Power or Trico Electric Cooperative, depending on the address. Service upgrades and new services are coordinated with whichever utility serves the property.

Tucson

Licensed residential and commercial electrical work across Tucson, from midtown and the university area to the Catalina Foothills, the east side and the northwest.

Many Tucson homes were built from the 1950s through the 1970s. Houses of that age often have a small electrical service, few circuits, two-prong outlets and a panel that has reached the end of its life.

Inside city limits, electrical permits go through City of Tucson Planning and Development Services. Unincorporated parts of the metro, such as the Catalina Foothills and Casas Adobes, fall under Pima County Development Services. Tucson Electric Power serves most of the metro area, and Trico Electric Cooperative serves parts of the northwest side.

Green Valley

Licensed electrical service for Green Valley homes and businesses, about 20 miles south of Tucson on I-19.

Green Valley has been a retirement community since the 1960s, and many of its homes still have their original panels, wiring devices and lighting.

Green Valley is unincorporated, so electrical permits go through Pima County Development Services. Power comes from Tucson Electric Power or Trico Electric Cooperative, depending on the address.

Sahuarita

Licensed electrical service for Sahuarita homes and businesses, including Rancho Sahuarita, Quail Creek and Madera Highlands.

Sahuarita incorporated in 1994 and is one of the newer towns in Pima County. Most of its neighborhoods were built in the last 25 years.

Electrical permits for work inside town limits are issued by the Town of Sahuarita. Power comes from Tucson Electric Power or Trico Electric Cooperative, depending on the address.

Vail

Licensed electrical service for Vail and the southeast side, from newer subdivisions like Rancho del Lago to rural properties on acreage.

Vail mixes master-planned neighborhoods with rural lots. On larger properties, electrical work often means running power beyond the house: a feeder to a detached garage or workshop, an RV hookup, a well pump circuit, or lighting for a barn or corral.

Vail is unincorporated, so electrical permits go through Pima County Development Services. When a job needs the service shut off or upgraded, it is coordinated with the electric utility that serves the property.

Mt. Lemmon

Licensed electrical service for cabins and businesses in Summerhaven and on Mt. Lemmon, in the Santa Catalina Mountains above Tucson.

Summerhaven sits at about 8,000 feet, where winters bring snow and freezing nights that the desert floor never sees. Some cabins were rebuilt after the 2003 Aspen Fire. Others are decades older, with wiring to match.

Mt. Lemmon is in unincorporated Pima County, so electrical permits go through Pima County Development Services. Trico Electric Cooperative provides power on the mountain.
